Goose Feather Coat

Mi-Chau was daughter of ancient Vietnamese king An-Duong-Vuong (ruled in about 225 BC). Her husband, Trong-Thuy, was the prince of enemy country. He tricked Mi-Chau, stole the magic crossbow, and left for his country. When war between the two country occurred, innocent princess fled on horse with her dad, and dropped goose feathers from her coat to show her love the way to find her. The king realized, pulled out his sword and beheaded Mi-Chau. Before she died she vowed: “If I have been unfaithful to you then let me turn into dust. If my faith has been constant and I have only been tricked then let me turn into pearls, so that this humiliation can be washed away.” Her blood flowed down the ocean floor where oysters swallowed it and the blood transformed itself into pearls.

Dịch thơ:
Tình chồng thì nặng, ơn cha sâu,
Biết giãi niềm oan tận kiếp nào?
Nỏ móng hết thiêng, rùa biến mất
Ngọc châu hoen lệ, trai chìm đâu?
Bia hoang cây cỗi, nghìn thu trước,
Biển biếc trời xa, một tấm đau.
Triều cũ vắng tanh, bên miếu lạnh,
Quyên kêu đứt tiếng dưới trăng sầu.
